2006 Sierra Foothills Zinfandel
This medium plum colored old vine Zin is from the rugged red dirt hills of Amador County. While the aromas are spicy and fruit driven (strawberry and rhubarb) there is a ferrous content which is derived from the volcanic soils. The palate is filled out with over ripe pie cherry flavors and fold nicely into a vanilla French oak matrix which leaves a lip smacking, crushed blackberry flavor on the palate.
These 50+ year old hillside vines are located at the Clockspring vineyard and are as picturesque as the quality of wine demonstrates. Try this wine with short ribs in a red wine reduction over parsnip mashed potatoes and haricot verts.
